Onkyo Receiver

Onkyo receiver TX-SR506

Although it lacks some of the home theater features of its siblings, the SR506 is a capable home audio receiver for those on a tight budget. 

The SR506 has 7.1 channels at 75W/channel with a total harmonic distortion of 0.08%.  It is capable of decoding Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX and Pro Logic IIx along with DTS, and DTS-ES.  It offers 3 HDMI inputs and one output.  In addition it offers Audyssey 2EQ for room calibration of your home theater and has 2 zone capability. 

Onkyo receiver TX-SR606

This is an extremely popular receiver and one of the receivers that are widely recommended for those in the under $400 price range offering and incredible bang for your home theater dollar.  The SR606 takes what is offered in the 506 and offers some important additions for home theaters for only a marginal increase in cost. 

The SR606 has 7.1 channels at 90W/channel and adds decoding for Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master audio for clear, crisp lossless audio that will make your Blu-ray movies come to life.  It also adds HDMI video processing (Faroudja) along with an additional HDMI input for a total of 4.  It also adds HDMI upconversion capabilities.  In addition it is Sirus radio ready.

Onkyo receiver TX-SR705

For the next step up, the SR705 has 7.1 channels at 100W/channel.  The SR705 has 3 HDMI inputs and offers HDMI video upconversion.  It is THX certified and offers Audyssey MultiEQ room calibration.  It is also XM ready.

The newer Onkyo receiver TX-SR706, in addition to some technical upgrades offers 4 HDMI inputs and 1080p upscaling and is THX Select2 Plus certified.    

Onkyo receiver TX-SR805

The SR805 boosts up the power as it is a 7.1 channel receiver at 130W/channel with 3 HDMI inputs.  It is THX Ultra2 certified.

The newer Onkyo TX-SR806 offers a total of 5 HDMI inputs along with 1080p upscaling over HDMI and upscaling over component to 1080i.  In addition it is THX Ultra2 Plus certified.

Onkyo receiver TX-NR906

The SR906, along with a boost of power to 145W/channel, adds an additional HDMI output, HDMI video processing with HQV Reon-VX and several key enhancements to the amplifier design.  It also offers network connectivity, Zone 3 capabilities and support for HD radio tuning.
